Ships

Each faction in the game fields a unique line of ships. Each faction’s ships have additional modifiers that separate their version of each class from other factions. The Orfine are fast, nimble, and in your face, while the Terrans are slower and deadlier at range. Ship types have “base stats” in the form of range, speed, handling, tracking, hull, and repair. These stats are modified by modules and are based on the ship size and class. Ships can gain experience points by defeating players, NPCs, or mining. These experience points can then be used to upgrade three ship stats: Piloting, Engineering, and Gunnery.

Ships are divided into 3 important parts: Rank, Size, and Class.

Rank

There are 5 ranks, from the cheap and basic transportation and mining ships at rank 1 to the battlecruisers at rank 4 and the starbase builders at rank 5.

Size

Ship sizes define many of their base values.

  • "Light" ships are Size 5-7, faster, nimbler, harder to hit
  • "Medium" are size 8-10, heavier, though still nimble enough
  • "Large" are size 9-12+, slower, heavy, and heavily armed

Ship classes now are more explicit about the ship’s purpose and intended target. Corvettes/Destroyers/Cruisers are built as take-all comers, Interceptor/Gunboat/Gunship are equipped to tackle light ships but are weaker against large ships, while Assassins/Hunter Killers/Battlecruiser fare well against Large Ships but struggle against Light.

Class

Below is a quick breakout, on the left is the class, on the right is the intended target type.

Light Ship Classes:

  • Interceptor - Light
  • Corvette - Mixed
  • Assassin - Large

Medium Ship Classes:

  • Gunboat - Light
  • Destroyer - Mixed
  • Hunter Killer - Large

Large Ship Classes:

  • Gunship - Light
  • Cruiser - Mixed
  • Battlecruiser - Large

Modules

Weapon module sizes are Light, Medium, Heavy, and Superheavy. The heavier the weapon, the more damage per output it does, but the worse its Tracking is.

Weapon

Weapon modules allow your ship to fire at NPC or player ships. The damage dealt, range, and accuracy are determined through a combination of the player's Gunnery stat [...] Super Heavy Heavy Medium Light

Shield

A shield module provides your ship with a shield that acts as a secondary health bar on top of your hull.
