Update – Balancing & QoL

January 1st, 2020

I have just put in an update for ship speed, please offline/online any module on your ship and the speed will be corrected. Please note I noticed that the skill bonus for piloting was being incorrectly applied per engine so ships with 2 engines will be slower than pre this update, we will look at ether adjusting the base speeds or other ways of adjusting these

A few minor updates: – You can now once again comment on issues – System owner has been added to the starmap, systems with join ownership will show both faction names – The Faction page layout has been tweaked – The Ship page layout has been tweaked and a starbase repair button added (if docked) – The Dimensional Pocket has been fixed

The genesis ship has been re-added to the morchedi, it should once again make it possible to get through the missions and get going

More updates ™️ Chat: – A new layout has been added, more structured and hopefully easer to use, this will continue to be adapted over the coming week or so. – Scroll up to load more ™️ , Just gone in – You can now see all Faction and OCC messages when you login, irrespective of if you where online. By default it will load the last 15, scroll up for more. Just gone in – The chat box and map heights have been adjusted slightly (smaller map/bigger chat box) to account for differing screen sizes. There are quite a few more chat updates planned soon! Structures: – The delete buttons are now always visible but disabled if you can’t destroy the structure (vs hidden/shown as before) – Factories (structure) have now been disabled (these will return in a different form in future)

The missions have also now been updated: – Skills will now automatically be recognised (no need to +1 for them to be recorded) – The order will remain correct when a mission is accepted – Some of the objectives have also been adjusted given the recent building changes.

There is a big update about to go in, All ships will be docked and i recommend logging out. Nothing much will change but there are some big underlying updates (code) wise that might take a minute or so. Normal service should be resumed7 January 2020


January 7th, 2020

– Missions have been further tweaked to add a count and fix an issue with the skills objective (previously unable to complete the mission) – Chat should now once again scroll to the latest message as they are received – Chat has been adjusted/optimised and should now be at least 4x faster to load (2.3s now down to 300ms average) – Some modifications to Ship types have been made, this does not yet directly effect ships but will allow for some pending changes to be made (update for those soon ™️ ) – Fix for character page (500 error) – Adjustments to Chat history, messages older than 6 months are now automatically deleted. – Ships destroyed more than 6 months are now also permanently/automatically deleted. – Tab for building class factory has been hidden/removed from the building section.

A slightly hidden but very important update SuperTick Over the past week I’ve been tinkering away with some far from fun code to make some much needed but slightly hidden improvements. At the heart of ISW is the game TIck, it (hopefully) keeps you all in sync and everyone moving along, repairing, firing and doing all the things you love. Unfortunately it has been lagging around for a while now and this has meant that there has been a delay on the tactical screen, occasionally combat and a number of unintentional slow downs. This is/was mostly down to ship movement, moving 20k ships in unison is no easy feet in under 1 second. As a result we offset movement to many processes (48!) in order to keep the tick as consistent as possible. Sadly ship movement still equated for a 5/6 second delay. (for just NPCS!) :O Enter the the SuperTick .. With a lot of careful maths, tinkering and premature ageing… The ship movement phase now runs in 34ms for ALL ships! (20k+) This means that the tick update will now always have the correct ship locations moreover the game should be much more efficient under load! This also means that the 48 process (some 2000 jobs/second each) are now also no longer needed! 😀 let us know if you notice any odd behaviour but hopefully everything should Tick along nicely ™️ (sorry, not sorry)

He failed to adhere to the guiding principles, used offensive language directed at harrassing other players and created an unfriendly, disrespectful environment. We allow for players to take a breather and come back if they have a plan to align with our values. I sincerely hope he does. We are building a community just as much as we are building a game. Failure to follow our the guiding principles indicates to me that you do not want to be a part of this community. I have let things slide in the name of growing pains, but moving forward if you indicate you aren’t interested in being a part of the community, I will walk you out the door. I am excited to have all of you here and to build an amazing community and game with all of you. You have all contributed immesely over the months and years and I hope you will continue doing so.

the changes are live, but I am in no way infallible. Play with the ships, give feedback and the balance will as always be a regular and ongoing thing to ensure that no single ship is the best option.

Due to recent discussions and animosity, we have, at the request of the individual involved reinvestigated the exploitation of an XP bug earlier in the year. The results of this investigation have confirmed the use of an exploit to gain an unfair EXP advantage but we would also like to acknowledge the individual for stepping forward. As a result of this we will be removing all benefits gained from this exploit. And have excised our discretion in this instance to not take the action any further. Therefore we would ask you all consider the matter closed and cease from any further animosity. We would like to remind all players to be forthright with bugs, exploits and issues at all times! Attempts to exploit bugs will be investigated both in the instance and historic and appropriate action taken. It is important to remember a small error may not technically be an exploit, but in the long run it can cause grief for everyone involved. If you find an error, bug, exploit or anything else in the game you feel is not within normal parameters, report it (if necessary you can do this privately on discord if you feel it is exploitable) and do not proceed to abuse the bug further. P.S: Please do not take action into you own hands or be passive aggressive to anyone involved. You may not intend to cause any distress, but as well as having an effect on their in-game experience, it can have a negative impact on their mental health. Remember, think before you type! -Drs

QOL Updates: Starbase health has been significantly increased inline with recent changes to planets, starbases should represent quite formidable opponents and as a result their health was lacking (less half player built planets) . We will be looking into their armaments and firing issues soon. In the mean time starbases may show as damaged, this will only be whilst they regenerate to their new health

– Ship health has now been doubled across all ships – The amount and effectiveness of ship repairs have been reduced ** you will need to repair your ship to gain the extra health

– Ship health bar should now be working and displaying correctly, therefore you can now repair 100% of your health whilst in space… although starbases will likely be faster if your combat style is comparable to turning your ship into a cheese grater
